London & Brooklyn’s Batman Birthday Party!

London and Brooklyn’s birthdays are 5 days apart (yes I didn’t really plan that very well did I?!) and London hadn’t yet experienced a birthday party of his own so this year for their 4th and 6th birthdays we decided to throw them a joint party.

The first thing was planning a theme and we (cough..I) chose a monochrome batman theme and thought it would be cool to have the kids all dressed up in their favourite costumes. Jordan from With The Whittakers designed the invite for us, this girl is pretty amazing I didn’t even really have anything in mind I just told her I wanted something monochrome and to do with batman and she came back with this! The kids loved it!

Julie from Pop Roc Parties very kindly hooked us up with some goodies from her amazing website! I was actually pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to source cool black and white party supplies and the Pop Roc Parties website made it so easy to find them as all I had to do was select ‘superhero theme’ under the theme selection, no spending hours flicking through every single page it was seriously so easy, stressfree and simple! Little things as simple as that make life so much easier, we don’t get very good Internet at home it’s so slow and I just can’t deal with sitting there for ages waiting for a million pages to load!

We chose to hire a hall in town as we live quite far out in the country so it saved parents having to drive all that way! We wanted some kind of entertainment for the kids too and lots of people recommended Happy Wanderers Entertainment Group in Wanganui, so we thought it would be a great idea if Superman and Spider-Man could come to the party too! Christine was fantastic, she took lots of photos of all the kids hanging out with Spider-Man and superman and they played pass the parcel, it took a little bit of pressure off me as she took control of the games which I thought was great!

We set up a ‘Hulk Smash’ area where we had wrapped heaps of boxes to make them look like a wall and we had a hulk hand that the kids had to put on and punch the wall to knock it over.

As for food we had the usual sandwiches, chippies, jelly etc and we also had wooden disposable cones filled with popcorn, marbled batman sugar cookies on sticks (I’ll post the recipie further down the post) , Oreo buiscuts, cupcakes and a few other yummy goodies. The birthday cakes where made by a friend Jess at Sugarbaby Custom Cakes her cakes are super yummy and she does such an amazing job. I had a batman cake topper made by the oh so amazing Kylie from Love From Seventeen and I decided super last minute (like a few days before the party!!)  that I needed another one for the other cake and Cara from Cara’s Creations NZ  kindly offered to make one for us! Life saver!!!! We had centre pieces in the middle of the tables where the kids sat that where pegboard cut into strips and painted black and I made some marshmallows on a stick dipped in Cadbury chocolate and sprinkles.

dont laugh at our awesome cupcake attempt haha!!!

A white crate sat on a table near the enternace held loot bags filled with candy, glow sticks and other goodies and I got some batman and crown wall stickers from the warehouse and some thank you stickers made by With The Whittakers which where stuck onto white paper bags.

I think this party was the most stressful thing I have ever done to be honest haha! I’m definitely not in a rush to throw another party that’s for sure! Me and my mum (thank you so much mum!!!!) where up first thing in the morning getting the food sorted, then made our way to the hall around 11.30 where we started to set up. We where rushing around like mad women trying to get it all done and take photos and next thing we know people started turning up and it was party time! My poor kids where late to their own party, their Dad didn’t brush their hair like I asked lol and Brooklyn wasn’t even in a costume…men I tell ya!! Me and mum didn’t make it home to get changed and we where just absolutely stressed out hot messes haha!!

Batman cookie recipie- For the cookies I just followed THIS recipie and used a batman cookie cutter instead of the heart and for the marbled icing I followed THIS recipie and it was super easy and so much fun to make them!
